Tara Lynne Touesnard was a four-time champion at the Maritime Old Tyme Fiddling Contest, a recipient of more than 30 trophies and awards, including the Don Messer Trophy, and cast member of the Cape Breton Summertime Revue when she passed away tragically 30 years ago at the age of 21. A member of the Nova Scotia Youth Orchestra, Tara Lynne released three albums—Heritage (1988), Fiddle Fingers (1990), and Bowing the Strings (1992)—and was working on her fourth when she passed away. The Tara Lynne Touesnard Memorial Award was established in February 1995 and is given annually to a person who best exemplifies the qualities of Tara Lynne—her dedication to the preservation and enhancement of old time fiddling, devotion to community service and her pleasant and outgoing personality. In 2003, her family released Let’s Never Say Farewell, a compilation CD of choice tracks from her three previously released albums. Tonight in Port Hawkesbury, friends and family will come together to honour the memory of Tara Lynne Touesnard.
